The BBNJ Symposium Series Continues
We are excited to share that the BBNJ Symposium series will continue in 2026 and 2027!
After the successful second symposium in Singapore in February 2025, which drew nearly 500 attendees from more than 70 countries, we are pleased to announce continued strong interest in advancing this series as an independent forum for discussion.
The report of the BBNJ Symposium 2025, coordinated by Mara with support from the National University of Singapore's Centre for International Law (NUS CIL) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Singapore, outlining its key takeaways along with the session recordings is now available from the symposium website - www.bbnjsymposium.org

Preparations are swiftly advancing for a potential 2026 meeting in Brazil, focusing on topics such as coordination and cooperation with relevant institutions, frameworks, and bodies (IFBs). Concurrently, discussions facilitated by the World Maritime University (WMU) Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute are taking place, aiming to continue in 2027 with a symposium dedicated to the distinct challenges faced by small island developing nations (SIDS).
